Changing the world is overwhelming.
I know.
It’s difficult to think about changing the systems, the methodology of our vulnerability by making and spending money. Hard to know where. To. Start.
I could tell you that the thing to do is to get mad. That is the right thing to do.
We should be pissed. We should be scared. We should also be disappointed.
We could waste all that energy. Blaming others. We could waste our time. Finding comfort in our stuff. In our habits.
Alternatively, we could stop. Stop to consider our personal powers. Our global, human power is in choice. Our power is in our ability to shape and mold society by our actions. To share our actions easily, willingly, readily. Hungry and eager for others to catch on, to adapt along with us so we lift the world to a better state. We could stop to wonder. Wonder what little step we could muster the courage to take. Muster the courage then delve into the depths. Dive deep into the little sliver of inspiration, exploring what making the change means to you. Then… could you bring that light to the surface? Bring that courage to the world? Allow others to see what is possible? Encourage a path to a different future?
I truly, wholeheartedly believe that we can each make a difference in the world with our own actions. I’ve been inspired by others who have made small and significant changes before I had even thought about needing the courage to change myself. I’ve spoken to friends about how we, together, can work with humanity, humanness, to support each other in our journey to bringing the world to a different place. It’s not so overwhelming when you have other people in it with you. And everyone is in it with you.
For 2019, one of my partners in changing the world is my husband. After gathering a bunch of ideas, we decided on three goals for the year:
– Eliminating the use of plastic wrap
– Reducing toilet paper use
– Reducing and tracking food waste
Every bit counts. Every. Bit. Matters. What’s your bit?
