March’s Money Moment

Spring is actually coming to Edmonton and the weather is so lovely. It also means the money tends to start flowing like the mighty North Saskatchewan. Home repairs, camping, renovating, gardens, all. the. things.

What Happened in March?

In March, we did fairly well! I got a few more houseplants and no unexpected emergencies came up.

-Out of our all budget lines, 32% were over budget. That’s a decline from February. 🙁

-We were able to put a significant amount towards our investments.

-We started saving to make a lump sum payment on our mortgage principle. Our aim is to be completely debt free before 40.

That was our March, money-wise. We had to make a plan to reduce our spending in April, to make up for the budget lines that are over budget. It’s not always easy to talk about money so we recommend:

  1. Getting on the same page as your partner – set a few values that you both can get behind. Ours are Health and Adventure.
  2. Set a budget then review it monthly.
  3. Have a limit for what you can spend before you talk to your partner about it. Depending on your situation, that number will vary.

Toodles!
