Podcast Transcript – Episode 7 – 5 Daily Reminders

Hi everyone, and welcome to Gentle Reminders and to 2020. I’m Trina and I’m the host of this awesome podcast and since this is the first podcast of the decade, I am super stoked for you to be here. If you’re new to the podcast, I am thankful that you’ve turned your earballs onto me and if you’re returning, welcome back and I am super happy you’re here.

Now, I adore quotes and talking about life, which is why I started Gentle Reminders in 2019. I wanted to really spread some good and relatable tidbits and start conversations around how life is versus how we all think it should be. I think should is one of those words in the English language that is difficult to deal with because it sets expectations but also, it sets us up for failure and not in a good way, where you learn from the failure, it’s more like you should be this way versus being just who you are.

This podcast is all about getting through life together with all the messiness and beautifulness – I also make up words! Welcome to that. To kick off this amazing year, which I hope is going to be fantastic for you and for me and for everyone that you know, I wanted to share five daily reminders that I found on Pinterest. Being positive or upbeat isn’t easy, mainly because of the way our brains evolved. They evolved as an organ that looks out for danger. In order to be positive, you have to really work that muscle and set those neural pathways to be positive before they jump to the negative or if they jump to the negative first, to readjust them to the positive as quickly as possible. We have to create those good vibes and those tracks in our brains but we have to do it through repetition because that’s how we learn and a lot of the time, your brain needs to run a pathway, kind of like a walking path. Where the first couple of times you walk down it, it doesn’t have any impact on the grass or any impact on the way that the land looks. However, once you get two or three or four or five people walking down that same path, all of a sudden, it starts to wear down, it becomes obvious, it becomes barren, and the opposite thing happens in your brain. Whereas, when you create tracks by going over and over and over again, instead of it becoming barren, your brain starts to flourish with positivity.

I wanted to talk about these five daily reminders because having a daily reminder that you are AH-MAZING or having a mantra to be able to say to yourself is super important because when you’re in those moments when you’re in danger, or your brain thinks you’re in danger but you’re really not, or you’re stressed, having a reminder already sitting in your brain will be able to help you recall it quicker.

So, what are these five awesome things that I found on Pinterest?

  1. I AM AMAZING
  2. I CAN DO ANYTHING – I want to be really clear about this one because anything means no qualifiers. Figure it out. You’re smart, you’re intelligent, you have resources and people around you. Regardless of your situation, you have smart people around you or you have the resources to ask the question, to figure it out. I recently saw something on TikTok about budgeting and in the comments, someone was like “Great, you did this on someone who makes $3500 a month, but what about me, the person who is making $1000 a month?” Well, right now, that might not apply to you but you have the opportunity to figure it out. Realizing what your situation is, accepting it and then moving forward is super duper important.
  3. POSITIVITY IS A CHOICE – HOOOOH Yeah.
  4. I CELEBRATE MY INDIVIDUALITY – One of the biggest things that I came to realize in 2019 is that I am more creative than people give me credit for so that’s part of why I started this podcast, part of why I am starting a youtube channel in 2020 because my individuality is around helping people be better and one thing I really want to do in life is to help people understand that they have the capacity to be better, whatever that means to them.
  5. I AM PREPARED TO SUCCEED – What that really, truly says to me, deep down in my heart, is that I have been gearing up for that next step for a long time. I’ve been scared (or terrified, frankly) to take that next step. And my succeeding may not look exactly like what I think it is but just getting 1% better, as I said in the last podcast, is better than anything else.

Which of these five is resonating with you today?

For me, it’s really around positivity is a choice because today I know that I’m still on vacation and I’m getting this ready for you and am not really in that mindset of being around other people yet – I’m going back to work in a couple days. Being positive about going back to work, understanding my role in the world, that this podcast is going to succeed and is helping people. I have to choose that. I have to choose that this is good so I’m doing that.

This is a super short and sweet podcast and I am looking forward to creating more for you in 2020.
